Mr Kailash Gahlot was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in Delhi on 19 May 2017. He won his first election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in February 2015. He is presently the only minister representing the outer Delhi region in the Government of NCT of Delhi.
Mr Kailash Gahlot has a longstanding commitment to public service as a philanthropist, educationist and an entrepreneur for social change. He is widely known for his passion for human development issues especially concerning the youth and the underprivileged. Born on 22 July 1974, Mr Gahlot belongs to Mitraun village in Najafgarh, where his family has lived for over nine generations and has been working for the people of the area.
Mr Gahlot is the Founder Trustee of Sri Ram Chander Gahlot Charitable Trust, named after his father, which has undertaken several initiatives in the last two decades to bring quality primary, secondary, vocational and higher education to the entire Najafgarh area. Mr Gahlot has set up over 63 vocational centres, especially for women, to impart skills like cutting and tailoring, beauty culture etc. in villages and colonies of his constituency.
Mr Gahlot is passionate about working with the youth and has successfully used sport as a medium of connecting with the youth and giving them a platform to voice their issues and concerns. He has also developed a first of its kind youth employment service (YES) program that uses ICT to provide youth with free employment information updates, resume assistance, career counseling, book exchange and much more – all through mobile and laptops.
Professionally, Mr Gahlot is an accomplished advocate in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court with over 16 years of legal practice with a distinguished set of clients across sectors. During 2005-2007, Mr Gahlot was elected as Member Executive in Bar Association of High Court of Delhi.
